Since I moved house I’ve been a bit “lazy” and have been enjoying “discovering” the “ammenities” in my new area, yes, that does mean checking out the local pubs to see which are the best, there’s just a lot to choose from…
I’m starting to get caught up on the inevitable backlog of work that has built up because of this, so I should be back up to speed and adding lost of new videos over the next few weeks, apart from one week where I’ll be lying on a beach in Spain that is. 🙂
If you’re on my list you should be aware by now that I’ve teamed up with 3 other succesful internet marketing experts, Kevin Riley, Daniel McGonagle and Fabian Tan, to try and offer more help to anyone struggling to get those first online commissions coming in.
I consider myself to be lucky to have been able to get together with such a top bunch of guys to be able to help more people, although I guess it is partly a result of having worked hard at my online business for some time now.
There is so much to learn about making money online that it’s pretty much impossible to be an expert at everything, and it only takes one “stumbling block” to cause a serious problem to moving forward in your business.
Most marketers get past this by building up a network of trusted partners and friends who are experts in different areas, so they have a “go to guy” when they hit a problem that they don’t know the answer to.
Kevin, Daniel and Fabian are all experts in their own areas, and the four of us realised that we can offer far more by working together, to your benefit, so if you haven’t checked out the http://www.asktheimexperts.com site yet, please take a few minutes to do so.
When you visit the site you will notice that we each ask a few questions in a particular area of expertise, as well as giving you the chance to ask your most burning question.
I’ve spent a few hours today going through the replies and questions I’ve recieved so far and I thought I’d try and give some quick and simple answers to what appear to be the top areas of concern so far: –
1. Don’t know why a blog is important –
this is fairly easy to answer, as blogs are by far the simplest way of getting a website up and running, they take away the need to know how to code websites in html, but they also have another major advantage, the search engines (google in particular) like them because of the way that WordPress is designed, so it’s easy to post content to them and to get visitors to those posts.
2. Don’t have a blog and don’t know how to set one up –
This is even easier to answer, when you sign up for my BlogTactics Newsletter you get free access to my step by step videos tutorials showing you exactly how to set up a blog from scratch, including the “techie” stuff like registering a domain name, setting up hosting, changing nameservers etc.
3. Don’t know which platform to use –
there are some free blogging platforms like Blogger/Blogspot and WordPress.com, but I would only ever recommend using a self hosted WordPress.org blog.
With the free blog platforms you do not own the blog, so you can spend weeks or months working on your blog, making good quality posts and building up your traffic/visitors and then have it closed down on you without warning or the chance of getting it back, simply because someone complains that it’s a spam blog or has stolen content on it (whether it’s true or not), and all your hard work is lost…
With your own self hosted WordPress.org blog you are in charge and no one can take away the results of all your hard work and effort.
there are other reasons, but this one should be good enough!
4. Don’t know which market/niche to go for –
this one doesn’t have an easy answer.
Obviously the “internet/affiliate marketing”, “make money online” or “work from home” niche is a very popular one and it can be very profitable, but it can also be more difficult to get serious traffic in, although certainly not impossible.
Other “traditional” markets can be easier to break in to, and can still have huge potential for profit, so it’s really up to you.
the commonly given advice is to go for a market that is something you are interested in or pationate about, but if you’re considering doing that you should still check out the market/niche to make sure there are enough other people interested in that market to make it worth while.
Personally I have blogs in a wide variety of niche from automobiles and movies, to health and humor, as well as internet marketing.
As there is interest in this I will do a video or two on how to pick a market and check it for traffic and profit potential, although I can’t promise to have this finished and available for a couple of weeks as I’m about to go on a big family holiday… 🙂
5. Don’t know how to “pimp” my blog with all the best plugins –
There’s already some videos on how to add plugins and new themes to your blog on the videos page, just click on the link at the top of this page and scroll through the list of current videos to find the one’s of interest to you, but I’m also going to start adding some new videos covering my favorite plugins, why I use them, and how to set them up for the best effect, so “stay tuned” for the new videos. 🙂
6. Using RSS –
RSS is one the the powerful built in features of WP blogs that make them so cool to use.
There’s already a video covering the best ping list to use for your WP blog and how to set it up, but I’ll be doing at least one or two more videos on using RSS as there’s some other very cool stuff that you can do, most of it for free, that I need to show you.
7. Getting Traffic –
I’ve already covered the two main tactics I use to get traffic to this blog in the videos, specifically video submissions and BlogCarnival Submissions, but I’ll be adding some new traffic videos towards the end of this month.
That’s it for today, but I’ll post more answers here as the questions come in, and I’ll be adding a LOT more new videos for you over the summer, I’ve already got a list of 30+ planned!
Oh, and keep your eyes peeled for a new post tomorrow about how to get started with list building and a new blog competition I’m winning with a $100 cash (via PayPal) prize…
