Getting Website Traffic

Getting Website Traffic

Need to get some traffic to your new website?

Here’s my basic Traffic Action Plan…

These are simple “old school” techniques that you should always run through to start getting traffic to any new website you set up.

They’re not flashy or “black hat” or “secret loopholes”, they’re just the boring old standard stuff, but the important bit is these tactics WORK!

  1. Get your site indexed by submitting to some authority sites
  2. Article Submissions
  3. Directory Submissions [inc. Blog Directories]
  4. RSS Submissions
  5. Blog Comments
  6. Video Submissions
  7. Social Bookmarking
  8. Traffic Widgets for blogs
  9. Press Releases
  10. Blog Carnivals

I’ll be running through each of them in future blog posts, but to get things rolling we’ll cover the first straight away, as it’s really quite simple.

1. Getting your new website indexed

There’s actually two things I recommend doing to get any new website indexed, the first is to simply submit your website to the backlinks tool here: –

http://seouk.com/backlinks/

Follow the instructions on the page and your site should be picked up within a few hours and end up getting indexed in Google from one or more of the 20 authority sites that it now has backlinks from.

Feel free to use this script for any sites you have, this is totally “White Hat” and won’t get your site in to any trouble with Google or the other search engines.

The second thing to do is to make sure your site has a sitemap that Google can find and recognize/read.

If you have a WP blog then this really is a piece of cake, simply grab and install the XML sitemap plugin that you can find here: –

http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/google-sitemap-generator/

If your site isn’t a WordPress blog then you’ll need some sort of sitemap creation tool/software, the best one that I’ve fou8nd is the GSiteCrawler that you can grab for free here: –

http://gsitecrawler.com/en/download/

Simply plugin your url and upload the files it creates once it’s finished spidering your site.

If any one has problems with this feel free to leave a comment and if there’s enough interest I’ll look at getting a video done to help out.

I’ll post the rest of the Traffic Action Plan steps over the next week or so, stay tuned! 😉

Hey Matt,

I appreciate you sharing the wisdom and am looking forward to your continued series on generating traffic. Also, the backlink tool is awesome, thank you.

I have a question regarding backlinks, please… how can we confirm/view the backlinks to our site?

Thank you,

Fred S.

The simplest way is to use the Firefox web browser and make sure you have the SEOQuake.com plugin installed, then you can just browse to your site (or any other) and click on the icon for “Yahoo Links” to see all the backlinks for your site.
cheers,
Matt

I am waiting for your Traffic Action Plan. Where can I read it? I want to setup my website and blog but I don’t know which hosting company to sign up. I am looking for affordable and reliable hosting service like below $5 per month, pay on monthly basis. I don’t want to pay for a year’s subscription, which I id so with MidPhase in 2008. I lost $100+ after I canceled it after 30-day when my website was down on numerous time..
