Hi Matt,
Thanks man! I’ve been waiting for these to come out. I’ve downloaded them all
although my fave is the Vintage theme. I’ll post a comment here once I get it live on my new website. Thanks again and keep rockin!
Hey Matt
Thank you, thank you for these great themes. Don’t know what I would do without you and your blog. I have learned so much. Thank you for your generosity and help.
Many thanks
Viv
Damn, you’re very generous!
Thank you for the WordPress themes, I’ll put them to good use.
Phil
Thanks Matt !
Been looking forward to having these…I honestly thought you would be charging for them…glad I was wrong ☺ ☻
Hi Matt,
Excellent themes for my blog. Thanks for all the support you have provided
God bless
Good work! seeing some interesting recent posts; as a WP addict I will be checking them, many thanks-
just as a rant: has anyone been talked into another platform (or whatever it’s called) like Joomla, were never happy with it, and ended back with WordPress? Stay with what works, right?
Hi Kim,
I tried Joomla for a while, I ended up with a network of around 250+ joomla sites, but they never did as well for me as my WP blogs.
there’s also far more good quality plugins and tools available for wordpress than anything else I’ve come across, which just makeslife easier..
cheers,
Matt
Glad you all like them!

don’t forget to post Q’s and feedback, as they’re far from perfect…
cheers,
Matt
Your WP themes are so nice! Thanks for your hard job. I’m a fan of your blog
Thanks Matt,
I appreciate you sharing these templates. I like the clean look and will be trying them out soon.
Downloaded all of them and happily playing around with one right now. These are brilliant. Way more versatile than other themes and I’ve tried literally hundreds over the past 2 years.
None would do exactly what I wanted till now.
Very happy camper. All of your advice is helpful but this particular act of generosity has ensured a very loyal fan.
Thanks so much.
Louise
Thanks for all the kind comments!

I’m going tohave to point out that it’s not 100% “altruistic” to give away the themes for free though, as each one has a couple of links back to this site and one of my other main sites, so there is a benefit for me…
this is pretty standard with WP Themes and is why you can get such good ones for free.
So I’d like to thank you all for using them!
cheers,
Matt Garrett
Hi Matt
Thank you for the themes. Your help and advice is much
appreciated.
Michelle Jayes
Thanks for your generosity. It is very much appreciated.
Hoss
Hi Matt
Thanks for the themes. I like the video’s , and all of the training.
This is my first blog (I’m a newbie) – I am using Blue Simple 1.0 , and I am using wordpress version 2.6.2 – in the video you are using a different version of wordpress. My question is – I am not able to remove – Pages – Categories – Archives from Sidebar 1 and not able to remove – Recent Note – links – Meta from Sidebar 2 , I don’t even see the screen where I can drag and drop the widgets – the Sidebar Arrangement screen isn’t being displayed – help.
Hi Matt.
Your themes are useful for me.
Hi. I need some help ?Can you please help me to build a blog….
Thanks
Hi Jerry,
Have you downloaded my free BlogSetup Guide yet?
http://blogtactics.com/newsletter.html
that will show you step by step how to get a blog set up and I’m always happy to answer questions if you get stuck on anything.
I don’t have ablog setup service available at present, although it is a servcie I am planning to offer.
cheers,
Matt
Re: BlogTactics BOS Theme
Hi Matt;
I really appreciate these new themes. While I know that it is difficult to provide support on an individual basis, I thought I would ask about a small issue that I am having.
On my blog with the BOS theme, my blog title in the header is black, making it very difficult to read when on the dark background. I have checke the css files and see that it should be white but that is not happening. I have even changed the FFFFFF to another setting without luck.
Any thoughts?
Doh!! Sorry about that last post. I found the correct video to show me how to make the change. Very easy once you know how.
Thanks again
Phil
Hi Phil,

glad you found it!
cheers,
Matt
Sorry for all the newbie questions, but on the BOS theme, how do I get rid of the two sets of Meta and Archive sets?
Phil
Hi Phil,
ok, you’ve got me bamboozled there, what do you mean the “Meta and Archive Sets”?
cheers,
Matt
Sorry about the poor description of my question.
When I use the BOS theme “out of the box” I have two columns down the right side. Each column contains a list of Archives and a list of Meta Links. In other words each of these “sets” of links appears twice.
I had thought that these might be controlled by Theme Management or Widgets, but that does not appear to be the case.
I am fairly confident with directly editing templates, but in the Theme Editor, I see sidebar.php, sidebar1.php and sidebar2.php. I note that there are scripts to call archive and meta links in the first two, and was wondering if I should just delete one “set” or if that would mess things up? Is it ok to just go in and delete these duplicate “sets” of links? Can I just add some of my own stuff in their place (eg Adsense, etc)?
I probably should just save a back up and jump in and test some changes to the php code, I was just wondering if there was some other way to deal with this.
Thanks again for the great themes.
Phil
Hi Phil,
not sure how you’ve ended up with the meta link and archives in the themetwice, both of these should be controlled from the widgets option within WP itself.
I’ll check the theme download, but feel free to take one or both out and use the widgets to add them where you want them to be.
cheers,
Matt
Hi Matt
Where can I find the videos re installation and setup of the Blue Simple Theme?
Many Thanks
Viv
Hi Viv,

oops!
thanks for pointing out that I hadn’t posted the links to the individual posts on this page, I’ve done it now so you should be able to see them above.
cheers,
Matt
Using the SimpleBlue theme on my blog nigelbooker.com but in IE the Sidebar2 ends up at the bottom of the page instead of its rightful place at the top. In FF all seems well. What am I doing wrong?
Thanks, Nigel
Hi Nigel,
I just took a look in ie and it seems ok to me..?
the sidebar can get thrown out of place if you add in text widgets that don’t have the
tags in place.
I’d also recommend editing the html for your optin form and shortening the length of the two fields to make them fit in.
cheers,
Matt
Thanks for the advice. All sorted now.
There is another question however… How do I get excerpt working? As I have it now the whole post is shown even if I add an Excerpt in the ‘Add post’ screens. Looking at the example http://mattgarrett.com/ I see there is the text “This is a preview of” & “Read the full post here” at the bottom of long posts.
How do I get that working? I can’t see the option anywhere.
Thanks again.
Hi Nigel,
that’s automated by the “Post Teaser” plugin, you can find the download link for it on the plugins page – http://blogtactics.com/plugins/
cheers,
Matt
Great, thanks.
What is the difference between Blogtactics wordpress themes and generic wordpress themes you can get from the wordpress web site?
The BlogTactics themes have some special features built in to make life easier, such as the ability to browse to an image on yoru hard disk and have it automatically crop to the right size (you choose which section of the image) to use as the header graphic, making it very quick and easy to add a custom header graphic.
There’s also built in banner management…
cheers,
Matt
Are there plans to make good feature such as these available as plugins?
I have spent substantial time customizing a theme and features such as image cropping and banner management would be useful, if they were available as plugins.
Hi Matt
Hope you had a truly great festive break and my every good wish to you for a successful, safe and happy 2009.
Matt I downloaded your Blue Simple Theme (again thank you for this), but I have a ‘newbie question’ that I wonder if you would mind answering. I am constantly hearing that themes should be ‘SEO optimised’ and that they should include some Adsense adds to monetize. How do you SEO Optimise (do you have a video or a course on this) and the same for the Adsense – I have been recommend to use a plugin called Adsenseanna, do you recommend this for your theme?
Many thanks
Viv
Hi Viv,
grab the “All in one SEO” plugin for adding extra SEO optimization to your blog, there’s a link for it on the plugins page, and don’t forget to watch the video on optimizing your premalinks structure.
there’s also a link to the AdSenseDeluxe plugin on the plugins page that I recommend for adding adsense to your blog, as well as 3 0r 4 videos on using it on the videos page.
cheers,
Matt
Hi Matt
Thanks so much for your valued advice. I will do that. I intend to use my blog as a CMS and have the front page static and I really think this theme is going to look really good for me.
Cheers
Viv
BlogTactics BlueSimple is one of my favorite wordpress themes, Thanks for sharing these. I’ve seen people charging money for themes that aren’t even half as nice. I always look forward to seeing a new post from your site in my rss reader, Keep up the good work.
Thanks Matt!
Can I share my theme here?

Hi Matt
Themes are awesome! Thanks. I am using BYS and would like to change/remove the stripes either end. You mentioned there is a video to explain that. I cannot seem to find it on your site. Can you direct me to it, if not can you tell me where to modify the code and with what?
Thanks
Claude
Hi Claude,
hmm, I can’t seem to find that video either, not sure where it’s gone, sorry, but here’s the simple explanation of how to change the stripe graphic: -
in the “images” folder for the theme there is a subfolder called “img_bak”
find the alternative image you want, copy it across to the images folder, and rename it stripe.jpg, although I’d recommend renaming the original stripe.jp something like stripe_bak.jpg in case you ever want it again.
then just re-upload that image to the images folder for the theme on your hosting.
hope this helps!
cheers,
Matt
thank you for your nice articel ,i really like and want to try use your template.you could check at my site.
Hi Ronnie,
it looks like you’ve added some sort of adverts in to the first sidebar which are throwing all the boxes after that out.
try putting “div” open and close tags at the start and end of the adverts html code.
the tags are like this but without the spaces – “< d i v >” and “< / d i v >”
cheers,
Matt
hi,
all right, first comment in nearly 3 years! woo hoo. anyway, i’m commenting to ask if you think it’s still a good strategy for garnering backlinks by distributing FREE WP blog themes. if so, what is the best strategy in how/where to add your links to themes.
thanx,
alx
Hi Alex,
there’s two potential problems: -
1. as a “sitewide” link Google will at best discount the links heavily…
2. you could end up with an aweful lot of links for the same keyword, which Google do penalize now.
it can still work as a tactic, but I would suggest: -
a. only including the link back to your site on the index.php template, so that it’s just one backlink
b. using a generic anchor text that you’re not targeting for SEO, which could be your brand name or company name.
hope this helps!
cheers,
Matt
