BlogCatalog sent out an email earlier today mentioning a new blog widget from a site called JargonFish that’s supposed to “helpful resources” to your blog content.
it works by highlighting keywords in your posts that when a visitor click on will bring up a new “floating” box with these “helpful resources” in.
when you set up the widget you can choose which “resources” your widget displays, including Yahoo News, Flickr, Technorati, BlogCatalog, Amazon and ebay.
now here’s the bit that get’s me, the amazon and ebay feeds would seem to be using JargonFish’s own affiliate codes, as there is nowhere to input yours when you create the widget!
there is a payment information page in the setup area where you can choose to be paid by check, paypal or wire (wire only when balance is over $5k), but I can’t find any details at all that tell you what % revenue share there is, if any..
and to top it off the field for your paypal addess is limited to just 20 characters, so if your PayPal email address is over that (mine is 21) you can’t get paid via PayPal.
I’ve sent them an email to ask about these points, so I’ll post their reply here when/if I get it..
For the moment I’d recommend holding off installing this new widget until there’s a little more “detail” forthcoming. I’ve got it installed on one blog just for testing purposes, so I’ll share any results I get, as usual..
UpDate:
I’ve spotted to entries on the Halp/FAQ page on Jargon Fish that say “CanI earn Money with JargonFish?” and “How Do I Get Paid?”, but they don’t link to any entries with answers to the questions posed, so it looks like JargonFish is still a work in progress and needs to be updated..

Just thought I’d post a comment as a quikc way of making an update to this post…
I’ve received an email from the guys at JargonFish asking how I’vefound the plugin, so I’ve shot them a reply with my concerns and I’ll post more once I get a reply.

Thanks for the info on JargonFish’s plugin but it doesn’t look hopeful if they have not replied in over 10 days… If they are that slow answering questions I can tell you that I’m not real inclined to line their pockets by installing it! Please keep us posted on the matter.
Hi Phil,

yup, I’ve come to the same conclusion…
either they’re to dissorganised to reply, or thet don’t have answers to my questions, like what’s the revenue share and how’s it tracked..?
pretty importan qustion really, imho.
