For some third party scripts and add ons you will occaisionally need to add a new MySQL database on your webhosting.

This blog, BlogTactics.com, was down for a while earlier today, apparently the server it’s hosted on was under some form of attack and it took the host company a while to get it sorted out and back up and running.
They’re a good hosting company who I’ve used for almost two years without any previous problems, so it was reassuring to see that they were able to sort out the problem reasonably quickly.
But when I came back to the blog after being told it was back up and running I found the standard WordPress install screen..
It took me a bit of digging to find out what the problem was, the WP_Options table in MySQL was “crashed” and needed to be repaired, not something I’ve had to do before…
So it then took a few quick skype conversations with a couple of friends to work out what might fix the problem, 10 minutes later and it’s back up and running!
Phew! 
As I’ve been moving some of my old sites and blogs to a new web host (as mentioned in my Cheap Reseller Web hosting Post) I thought I’d take the opportunity to make a tutorial video showing how to move your wordpress blog by backing it up using the WP Backup Plugin and restoring it on to a new host using the MySQL PHPMyAdmin facility in cPanel.
It’s not actually as difficult as that may make it sound. If you’re a newbie or technophobe when it comes to using the cPanel hosting fetures it may sound a bit scary, but this video shows that it’s really just a case of clicking on the right links in cpanel and then browsing to the saved backup file on your hard disk to import the whole thing and get your blog back up and running on the new host.

The video is a bit long, over 10 mins in total, as I also go through using the plugin to save the backup, as well as changing the nameservers to move your blog/domain to the new hosting plan.

Earlier today I posted a video to show just how easy it is to create your your own favicon using a free graphics tool called Gimp, so here’s the second video to show you how to add your new favicon to your blog or website, it’s actually pretty simple…
This video is 4 minutes long.
note: favicons do not always show up immediatly, usually because your internet browser “caches” images to speed things up.
try hitting the F5 function key to refresh your browser and this may start your new favicon dislaying, if not, simply close your brower and try again in a while.
Adding a favicon to your site can help make your site “stick out” in your visitors mind and encourage them to bookmark your site and return again…
