I just Stumbled! your post because this is the thing I am afraid of most when upgrading WP.You never know what will happen with all this free plug ins. They do not have upgrade or support and they might not be completable with new version of WP. I have never heard that text widget is not working, maybe it is about the theme compatibility. Thank you for the great post.

Great video & solution for anyone that is experiencing this problem. I usually tend to wait a little while before upgrading, just to see if anyone has any problems with the latest update first.

Everything is fine with mine, I'm using Flexibility theme.

From the comments that have been posted here it does seem likely that it's down to my theme.
cheers,

Hi Carol,
the "session data" tag looks like something that's being added by either the theme or a plugin, but it's not one that I'm familiar with or have seen before..
cheers,
Matt

Hey Matt,
Thanks for another great video. With the template I am using, I haven't been able to use the widgets at all as they throw off the template side bars . I have to add my my widget text into the coding for the sidebar through "appearance editor". I am going to try this and see if it will enable the widgets to work correctly. Thanks again.

Aloha - June

It's most likely a problem with your theme's coding. Try to update your theme files according to WordPress standards from their codex section.

Cheers

Go to your Dashboard and then Widgets, look at the top near the right. You will see 'Screen Options', click on ti and enable 'Accessibility Mode'. That should settle your problems.

If not it could be the theme you are using, trying activating the default theme and see if your problem disappears. If so then it is your theme causing the problem.

Also make sure you have the latest browser version on your computer. My preference for WordPress blogging is Firefox.

Cheers

Hi Matt,
I just upgraded yesterday, and I thought Yikes! Did I lose everything and not notice? So I just went and checked, and it is all there, whew. It must be a theme issue, I am using Revolution.

When I was going through my site editing yesterday I was finding some strange script, "< !--Session data-- >", which I have no idea where it came from. I tried a Google search on it, and didn't get a very clear answer as to where this came from. Any ideas? I delete it whenever I find it on a page now.
Thanks!

it could well be that the "Text" widget that is integral to the theme I'm using is interfering with the standard text widgets feature of WP, as it seems to have disappeared for me.
I'll investigate further as I find time to upgrade my other blogs and get to the bottom of it...
at least the video ill help anyone who has the same problem, I hope.
:)
