BlogTactics.com ~ Just another WordPress site

Archive for February, 2008

I spotted Neil doing a test post on his blog earlier tonight and hung around to find out what he was up to..</p>

turns out Neil’s been playing with podcasting and has decided to have a bit of fun by running a competition for the weekend, and there’s $50 on offer as the prize!

all you need to do is pop over to Neil’s internet marketing blog and play the two audio files, to see if you work out who the internet marketer is on the audios…

As Neil’s managed to get audio up and running on his blog, I thought ‘d better do the same and it’s not actually that difficult, so I’ll see if I can get a video done showing you just how you can add podcasting to your site, which I’ll try and get posted for you before the end of the weekend.

In the meantime, just to prove that I have got it working, here’s an audio podcast about Neil’s comp: –

Good luck on winning the $50!

I noticed a few days ago that the pagerank for BlogTactics.com has suddenly dropped to zero, and as the site has far more links to it than it did in the last PR update, I guess the “mighty Giigle”, in their infinite wisdom, have decided that I’m selling posts or links on this blog..

They’re wrong, I’ve never sold any posts, reviews or links on this blog, I don’t even have any “paid” advertisments, but it seems that doesn’t really matter to them.

I assume it’s probably because my blogroll links didn’t have the rel=”nofollow” tag on them, so in their “all knowing wisdom” they’ve come to the conclusion that they must be paid links.

They’re not for course, they are in fact links to other sites of mine that are related to this blog, and to other sites that have useful resources and services that I use and recommend. It’s called affiliate marketing, but perhaps “Giigle” have decided to start penalizing affiliate marketers too, or maybe they just don’t like to see anyone other than themselves making money from a website..

Awesome Linkbait Example

I&#8217;ve been catching up on reading some of my favorite blogs and spotted a wicked example of “Linkbait”.

The link was on Neil Shearing’s blog (thanks Neil) and it really is worth taking a quick look at, as it might just get your creative juices flowing for some linkbaiting of your own..

Here’s the site:

http://producten.hema.nl

give it a moment or two to load up and just watch what happens to the page…

oh, and the site is dutch, so I’ve no idea what it actually says. 🙂

If you’re wondering what “linkbait” is, it’s simply a way of trying to attract backlinks from other sites/blogs by providing something worth linking to, it could be valuable content, it could be a free report, or (as in this case) just something cool and funny..

I made a post about some free software on my IAMUncovered.com blog earlier this week, but I thought I’d better mention it here too, just in case you missed them..

I’ve actually added them to the bonuses for subscribing to my BlogTactics.com newsletter, so you can grab all 4 of the tools by signing up, the optin is at the top the sidebar on the right of the page.

If you’ve allready signed up for the newsletter don’t worry, just put your email and name in again and instead of being signed up again you’ll be redirected to the download page, it’s one of the coolfeatures of AWeber… 🙂

These software tools are pretty useful, so you may want to grab copies for your own use, but the important bit about them is that they are free for you to give away as well, so you can offer them as bonuses to encourage people to sign up for your newsletter.

On the download page there are also links so that you can buy “viral” brandable version of the tools for yourself if you want to brand them with you own banners, site links and affiliate links, to make more money with them…

There&#8217;s some pretty neat “social” widgets available for blogs now, the “visitors” widgets from BlogCatalog and MyBlogLog are perfect examples.

My video post yesterday covered MyBlogLog, so today I’m going to show you how to add your blog to BlogCatalog and how to add their “Recent Visitors” widget to your site.

this widget will display the “avatars” of all the recent visitors to your blog who are also members of BlogCatalog.

this allows you to see who’s visited your blog, and you might just be surprised at who’s dropped by, it’s a real blast when you recognize someone..

but, like the MyBlogLog widget, it also adds an element of “social proof” (see yesterdays post) to your blog, giving it a “community” feel and encouraging visitors to come back again.

Here’s a quick video showing how easy it is to add your blog to BlogCatalog, as well as how to add their “recent visitors” widget to your blog, don’t worry, it doesn’t require any “Techie” skills.
